Clopay: The Safe Default
Clopay is what we install most often in DFW. They make everything from a $1,800 basic steel door up to a $12,000 real-wood Canyon Ridge, so we can match nearly any budget or aesthetic. Their Intellicore polyurethane insulation (R-20.4 on the Gallery Ultra-Grain) is the best-performing insulation in a residential door, which matters when your garage sits at 115°F in July.
Where Clopay wins: HOA approval. In Southlake's Timarron and Carillon, Colleyville's Hidden Lakes, and Frisco's Stonebriar, Clopay Coachman is on the pre-approved list at most ARCs — which means faster approvals and fewer resubmittals.

- Gallery — insulated steel with a raised-panel or carriage look. Value tier that punches above its price.
- Coachman — carriage-house look with layered steel construction. Our most-installed line in Southlake and Colleyville.
- Canyon Ridge — composite that looks like real wood but doesn't rot or warp. Premium tier ($5,500–$9,000).
- Modern Steel — flush or grooved contemporary panels. Popular in University Park and newer Frisco/Prosper builds.
Amarr: Best Value Carriage-House
Amarr makes a genuinely good product at a genuinely good price. Their Classica line is a carriage-house-style steel door that looks a lot like a Clopay Coachman but installs for $500–$1,200 less. If your HOA doesn't require Clopay by name, Amarr Classica gets you 90% of the look for less money.
Where Amarr wins: installer-friendly hardware. The Safe Guard door system is one of the safest pinch-resistant designs in the industry.

Wayne Dalton: Best for Contemporary Homes
Wayne Dalton makes a beautiful long-panel modern door (Model 8850) with a completely flush face. If you're building or renovating a contemporary home in Preston Hollow, University Park, or the newer Frisco / Prosper developments where flush modern is in demand, Wayne Dalton is often the best fit.
Their TorqueMaster spring system encloses the torsion spring inside a tube — safer against DIY injuries but adds complexity to service. We install and repair them without issue, but not every DFW garage door company services TorqueMaster confidently — ask before you buy.
Standout models:
- Model 8850 — long-panel modern with polyurethane insulation. R-16.4.
- Model 8000 — traditional raised-panel, entry-level.
- Model 9800 — carriage-house look with high-cycle springs.
What About C.H.I., Amarr Oak Summit, and Hörmann?
C.H.I. Overhead Doors is a strong 4th — their 5300 series matches Clopay Gallery quality at a slightly lower price, and their premium 5983 with Insulfoam competes with Coachman. We install a lot of C.H.I. in Grapevine and Flower Mound.
Hörmann is German-made and gorgeous but installs for $6,000+ minimum and takes 8–12 weeks to arrive. Overkill for most DFW homes.
The Real Question: Which Should You Buy?
If you want an easy, safe choice that'll last 25+ years: Clopay Gallery or Coachman. If you want the carriage-house look at value pricing: Amarr Classica. If you want modern flush: Wayne Dalton 8850. All three come with lifetime steel warranties — the differences are in insulation R-value, paint warranty length, and HOA acceptance.
